My Free Clinic

How Free Clinics Are Changing Access to Mental Healthcare

For millions of people across the country, the idea of seeing a doctor or psychiatrist can feel out of reach—not because they don’t want help, but because barriers like cost, language, immigration status, and lack of insurance make it feel impossible. Free clinics exist to change that reality.

A free clinic is a community-based healthcare facility that provides medical and psychiatric services at no cost to patients. It is built on the belief that quality care is a right, not a privilege. For many families who have fallen through the cracks of the traditional healthcare system, it becomes a lifeline.

But the barriers to care go beyond finances. Cultural differences, language challenges, and fear of judgment can make it just as difficult to walk through a clinic’s doors as the cost itself. That’s why culturally aware, community-rooted care matters so deeply—because feeling safe and understood is an essential part of healing.

My Free Clinic is proud to be the first free clinic run by a nurse practitioner in Illinois. We serve the Burmese and immigrant communities across the Chicagoland area, providing free annual physical examinations, primary care services, psychiatric services, and medication management—all completely free of charge, with no questions asked.

If this is an emergency, please seek immediate medical attention or call 911. For everything else—we are here, and we are ready to help.
